Will Banks Be Closed on New Year's Day?


Most banks across the country will be closed on January 1, 2025, for New Year’s Day. However, in the states of Mizoram and Sikkim, banks will be closed on December 31, 2024, in observance of New Year's Eve celebrations.

Although the official calendar for January 2025 has not been announced, banks are expected to have 13 non-working days, including two Saturdays and four Sundays.

Online Banking Services During Holidays


While banks may be closed on New Year’s Day, online banking services through websites and mobile apps will remain fully operational, regardless of weekends or other holidays. Customers can also access ATMs for cash withdrawals during this period.


Each year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issues the annual bank holiday calendar under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. When preparing this list, the RBI takes into account national and local events, religious celebrations, and cultural observances. The official holiday list is published on the RBI’s website and shared with all financial institutions. However, the RBI has not yet released the holiday calendar for 2025.
