While the festival of Diwali is halfway complete, the long weekend for banks is not over in some regions. The festival, celebrated for 5 days typically, begins from Dhanteras and concludes with Bhai Dooj.
As such, banks in several regions in the country have observed a long weekend, starting from November 1, 2024.
Are Banks Open Today?
November 2, 2024 marks the festival of Laxmi Puja, Diwali, Bali Pratipada, Govardhan Pooja, and Vikram Samvant New Year in some states. As such, banks in regions such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Sikkim, among others, will remain closed for business. Typically, the first Saturday in the month is not observed as a holiday by banks.
The festival concludes with Bhai Dooj that falls on November 3, 2024. While the festival is not celebrated across the country, due to it falling on a Sunday, banks across states will remain shut on the day.
The holiday list for banks is published by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the whole year. This list includes weekend holidays like second and fourth Saturday, all Sundays, festival holidays, and national holidays. The festivals are decided on the basis of region-specific beliefs and celebrations.
During November, banks are expected to be closed for the public for 13 days overall. During these holidays, the physical branches of banks will remain closed for business, however, customers will be able to access the digital services of all banks. Facilities such as mobile banking, digital banking, ATMS, etc will remain operational and any disturbance in their daily running shall be informed to the customers in advance.
