Airbus is planning to increase its workforce in India to over 5,000 direct employees and aims to source services and components valued at $2 billion from the country within the next few years, a top company official announced on Thursday. Remi Maillard, President of Airbus India and Managing Director for South Asia, emphasised that the company’s engagement in India is gaining significant momentum.

Currently, the aircraft manufacturer directly employs approximately 3,500 people in India and sources services and components valued at 1 billion euros from the country.

At the inauguration of the Airbus India and South Asia Headquarters - Training Centre in the national capital, he noted that the company plans to expand its sourcing footprint, aiming to reach $2 billion within the next few years.

Additionally, he mentioned that Airbus's direct employment in India is set to exceed 5,000 within the next few years.

Airbus will also establish a second pilot training centre through a joint venture with Air India and plans to invest in developing a 5,000-seat campus in Bengaluru.

Additionally, the European aerospace giant plans to manufacture the C295 military aircraft and H125 helicopter in India, both in collaboration with the Tata Group.

Maillard highlighted that Airbus is also partnering with Indian research organisations to support the commercialisation of the first 'Made in India' Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).

Airbus Defence and Space CEO Michael Schoellhorn emphasised that 'Make in India' is central to the company’s strategy. "The C295 programme is creating history as the first aircraft fully manufactured in India by the private sector," he noted.

He further mentioned that Airbus is poised to replicate the success of the C295 program with upcoming modernisation projects for the Indian armed forces, including the medium transport aircraft program, for which they are prepared to industrialise the A400M fully in India.
