In a remarkable performance, the Indian Grappling team achieved resounding success at the Moscow Grappling World Championship, held in Russia from November 17th to 19th. The premier event featured participants from 19 countries globally, with India emerging as the undisputed Champion by securing an impressive total of 105 medals.


The Indian grapplers’ stellar performance saw them triumphing over formidable opponents and clinching 23 gold medals, 30 silver medals, and 52 bronze medals. The outstanding performance catapulted India to the top of the table, surpassing Russia and earning the prestigious number-one title.


The Indian Grappling team demonstrated unparalleled skills and indomitable spirit throughout the championship under the leadership of Dinesh Kapoor, Chairman of the National Grappling Committee, and the support of Birju Sharma, Vinod Sharma, Vijay Sangwan, and Subhash Dawar, Chairman of the Company Alliance of Surat.



A total of 86 Indian players, including 43 boys and 43 girls, participated in the Championship. Overcoming challenges, the Indian team secured victory, asserting their dominance in the sport and claiming the coveted Champions Trophy.


The Republic of Dagestan was second in the medal tally, while Russia claimed the third spot.


Prior to their departure for Moscow, the Indian grapplers received heartfelt wishes from distinguished personalities, including actor and Member of Parliament Ravi Kishan, actor Manish Vidhu, actresses Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure, Gujarat Home and Sports Minister Harsh Sanghvi, Gujarati film star Hiten Kumar, Padma Shri Anand Kumar, table tennis player and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Harmeet Desai, ISRO scientist Suresh Kumar, Surat Traffic DCP Amita Vanani, South India film star Robo Ganeshahn, and many others.


A source of immense pride for the nation, the performance of the Indian grapplers in the Moscow Grappling World Championship showcases India’s dominance in grappling on the global stage. It also serves as a triumphant moment, compensating for the recent disappointment in the Cricket World Cup final.
