With the 2026 West Bengal Assembly election approaching fast, the political battleground is heating up. Within a week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have held two high-voltage rallies in the state, signalling an aggressive start to the BJP's campaign. As the principal opposition party, the BJP is keen to capitalise on what it sees as mounting anti-incumbency against the ruling Trinamool Congress.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, however, finds herself on the defensive.
