Women Have A Role in India's Economic Future. No Demographic Dividend Without Gender Equity

India's remarkable demographic transition, marked by falling fertility rates and rising life expectancy, has significantly expanded the working-age population, sparking optimism among economists and demographers. This demographic dividend theory suggests that a sizeable working-age population with lower dependency can fuel economic growth. However, in recent decades, the share of the working-age population has grown while women's participation in the workforce has sharply declined, from 35% in
