2021 was a year that belonged to the SUV. It seems the SUV is what the Indian car buyer wants and they sure did have lots to choose from this year. 2021 saw numerous SUVs being launched from the high-end to the budget segment. The SUV shape, driving position, and ground clearance makes them so desirable in the first place. We count down the top 10 SUVs of this year.

Mahindra XUV700

The XUV700 was one of the most hyped products this year and still continues to command a high waiting list along with huge demand. The XUV700 has been awaited for a long time and it is an all-new Mahindra SUV with an overhauled interior/exterior plus a feature-packed cabin. It is the best Mahindra product yet and one of the top value-packed SUVs to buy at this moment.

MG Astor

The Astor is a compact SUV with a feature list seen on cars costing many times over. In terms of its quality, equipment, and design, the Astor has been one of the most impressive in the compact SUV space. We especially like its wide engine/gearbox combinations and good ride quality along with offering value for money as well.

Hyundai Alcazar

It might be based on the Creta but the Alcazar has changed what luxury means at this price. For chauffeur-driven owners, the top-end Alcazar represents one of the best buys in terms of sheer features and technology. It is also good to drive, spacious and the diesel delivers very good efficiency. No wonder many Creta buyers are switching to this.

Volkswagen Taigun

The Taigun is also Volkswagen making an SUV suited for India and also being designed for our market. True to a German car, the build quality and performance is impressive but it also has a feature-packed cabin. The Taigun is one of the top SUVs of this year and changes the way fun to drive SUVs are being looked at.

Skoda Kushaq

The Kushaq like the Taigun is a Skoda that has been designed for our markets and it shows a good combination of ride quality plus performance. The SUV delivers on the features front as well along with good looks. It is easily the most important model launched by Skoda in India.

Tata Punch

SUVs for less? The Punch is an SUV for the mass market but is not a hatchback with some cladding. Tata Motors has really turned it into a desirable mini SUV with excellent ground clearance and abilities. It also looks good and is well packed with features. We only wish it had a more powerful turbo petrol engine but that aside, the Punch remains one of the stand-out SUVs launched this year.

Mercedes-Benz GLA

The GLA represents a strong seller for Mercedes-Benz and for the new generation, the concept of a compact luxury SUV has been changed by them. The interior is just as luxurious and rich as its more expensive models and quality/features are at the moment, a new standard for its class. Yet it still rides well and is a compact yet fun SUV. It is everything a Mercedes should be like but in a compact package.

Citroen C5 Aircross

The French car-maker finally made its India debut this year and its first product is pure French in the way it looks or the way it drives. This is an SUV that stands out from the crowd due to its styling or the fact that the ride quality is excellent along with a different interior. The C5 is spacious, comfortable, and looks different- hence it brings something new to the segment.

Audi Q5

The Q5 has to be the most important launch amongst the many that Audi has brought in this year. The Q5 has been one of its biggest sellers and the new version brings in a raft of changes. Yet at heart, the Q5 remains a solid package with a new petrol engine, new interiors, and a more aggressive look.

Jaguar I-Pace

One of the most impressive electric cars that we have driven this year has to be the I-Pace from Jaguar due to the range that we got or the performance. The I-Pace is also suited for our roads with the excellent ground clearance that can be raised along with a sportier handling set-up. One of the top electric cars being launched this year.
