Xiaomi will showcase its first car in India, which is the SU7 while currently it has no intentions of launching it in India. Their first product, the SU7 is a premium EV focussed at the luxury end being a Tesla Model 3 rival of sorts.

In China it has already bagged more than 100,000 orders after it was sold out within the first 24 hours. In China deliveries have started sometime back but in India, the brand will showcase it as a halo product as part of its exhibition in Bengaluru.

The SU7 is nearly 5m long and is a premium sedan while the top-end version comes with dual motors too while it has a massive 101 kWh Qilin battery which gives a range of 800 km. The dual motors have more than 600bhp and it rivals the likes of the BYD Seal in India if launched.

The design is swoopy and aero efficient with a focus on range plus power. Xiaomi will only display the car in India but could gauge market feedback for a possible launch in the future. If launched we expect it to be priced along with the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the BYD Seal at around Rs 40 lakh plus starting while the dual motor version could be more expensive.

However, at current prices, the company is selling them at a loss but for the Indian EV market, this could be an interesting addition. The Indian EV space towards the premium end has more options while the coming year will see a lot of new entrants within the electric car segment which would further increase the EV sales which currently stands at a fraction of the total Indian car market.
