In the Indian market we have seen many new trends within the automobile space and once distinct change is the addition of crossovers. This genre of cars are getting more traction for our market and it is not hard to see why considering how the buyer trends are shifting. Crossovers by definition are designed on a lighter and car platform rather than being based on an SUV platform.
SUVs have typically body-on-frame but crossover cars have a car platform. Hence, this means more affordability and the fact that so many are popular is also due to the appeal that these cars bring. Crossovers basically combine a car's dynamic abilities but also have the higher ground clearance of an SUV.
Typically, they are not huge like conventional SUVs but have few of the traits. Hence, crossovers are a combination of a sedan and an SUV with advantages of both. Crossover cars have the practicality of more space too due to the platform along with better on-road driving plus efficiency. Not just in India as globally, crossovers are more popular now over sedans or hatchbacks as they have the ground clearance but are basically as easy to drive as a normal car.
The trend of car based SUVs is rising and there are many sub segments as well. The affordable crossovers based on a hatchbackare at the affordable end while we have higher priced cars with more features while having the driving experience of a car. In India, crossover based cars started coming in from a decade ago but now the trend has grown considerably with better products.
Currently the trend has grown to combine many body styles while maintaining an SUVish look which is key. Hence, going forward we can see more crossovers being popular across India.
