New Delhi: Volvo launched the XC40 Recharge in India on Tuesday and it is currently the most affordable luxury EV being priced at Rs 55.90 lakh. Volvo has done this by locally assembling it in India and also being the first car-maker to launch such a car in the luxury space. However, with the XC40 Recharge, the only other EV SUV that can compete with it is the Kia EV6. Kia also launched the EV6 sometime back but on a limited number of units due to global demand and importing it into India rather than assembling it. The EV6 meanwhile is priced at Rs 59.95 lakh for the GT Line and Rs 64.9 lakh for the GT Line AWD.

Let us take a look at their performance with the XC40 Recharge having a 78kWh battery along with two electric motors plus having AWD. Total power is 408hp and 660Nm of torque. As a result, the XC40 Recharge can do 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The Kia EV6 in comparison has a single motor version which makes 340hp and 430Nm while the dual motor version makes 325hp and 605Nm. The 0-100 km/h time is also very fast at 5.2 seconds.

The crucial bit is the range and here Volvo claims that the XC40 Recharge has a range of 418km per charge and the EV6 though has more range at 528km with its larger 83.9kWh battery pack.

Both cars also get premium audio systems, ADAS features, connected car tech and more. So the XC40 is cheaper but has less range and is smaller than the EV6 which is more expensive too. Both ways it gives the car buyer more choice in terms of luxury EVs.
