Renault and Nissan have plans to re-enter the compact SUV space with above-sub-four-metre SUVs. The new generation of the Duster and the Terrano are going to spearhead the companies' re-entry into the SUV market. While Renault will badge its new SUV offering 'Duster' due to the high recall value for the SUV in India, it is not clear if Nissan will make the new launches under the 'Terrano' brand. However, both the new SUVs will spawn a three-row SUV derivative with different names.

The new generation Duster has been due for a long time and will be an all-new model with a rugged styling theme but bigger in size. While the Dacia Duster will get the new Dacia face, the Renault version will sport a more premium look. The Nissan counterpart will, of course, get different styling as well.

Both the SUVs will have different looks. These new offerings will come with petrol engines only, but they will have a powerful turbo petrol and a hybrid too. There will not be a diesel variant. Also, we do not expect the presence of an All-wheel drive (AWD) variant, unlike the previous Duster although its off-road appeal could be enhanced as a result.

We expect the Renault version to launch earlier and then we expect the Nissan version to come. The new platform will mean more space and it will be feature-packed as well to compete with new rivals. Both car-makers will also have another electric car, which will also be introduced in due course of time. The Duster, in its new generation form, is expected to come to India by 2025 with a possible debut at the 2025 Auto Expo. The current Duster and Terrano soldiered for a long time in their current versions.
