Volkswagen's most anticipated car, the Volkswagen Taigun, which is considered to be the rival car of Hyundai Creta is all set to hit the Indian markets. Today, we look at the five important things about the car that you need to know before buying it:

1. The Volkswagen Taigun is one of the most awaited compact SUVs and while its launch is still some months away, we managed to get up close and personal with the car recently. The Taigun is the first product from the MQB A0 IN platform and would be coming to the market with multiple powertrain options and features.  Volkswagen plans to launch the Taigun around the festive season period and we can expect aggressive pricing (below Rs. 10 lakh starting price- we hope!) due to the high levels of localization (upto 95 percent) achieved with this new MQB AO IN platform.

2. The production spec Taigun bears striking resemblance to the concept which was shown last year.It is quite a handsome SUV in the flesh and has the traditional Volkswagen design cues albeit in a more aggressive avatar. While it gets a skid plate, roof rails and more, our favorite part of the design happens to be the illuminated light bar at the rear. The GT-line model will also come with 17-inch alloy wheels while this striking paint shade is indeed quite eye catching.

3. While images of the interior of the Taigun have not been revealed, we can confirm that the SUV is feature packed and has a fairly spacious cabin. The design is understated but the quality on offer is impressive with a sporty all-black lay-out. The Taigun also has the longest wheelbase in its class and the rear seats are accommodating enough for two passengers. The central tunnel at the rear seat has been decreased to allow for the third passenger and while it might be a bit tight, the Taigun can be called as a bona fide 5-seater. Crucially the steering is adjustable both ways and the driving position is nice.

4. Volkswagen has applied all of its learnings for the Indian market and the feature list contains many new additions never seen before on any new Volkswagen car in India. The Taigun will have a fully-digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch touch screen, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, electric sunroof, LED headlamps, climate control, wireless App connect, rear-view camera, connected car technology, Type-C USB ports, 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, and electronic stability control as standard.

5. The Taigun would be launched with two turbo-petrol powertrain options including a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol unit which makes 115hp/175Nm and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol with an impressive 150hp/250Nm. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual for both engines and a torque-converter automatic for the 1.0-liter unit while the flagship 1.5-litrer TSI engine will have a dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters.

On first impression, the Taigun comes across as an impressive SUV that ticks many crucial boxes and is certainly the most convincing effort from Volkswagen yet. With the correct pricing, the Taigun has what it takes to be the biggest rival to the current segment leaders and also be the best selling Volkswagen for India.
