Navratri Brings Festive Cheer For Automakers As SUvs And Car Sales Double
It is expected that this trend will continue till Deepawali plus on the back of newer launches, the buyer interest will be retained.
After weak festive sales for the past two years, automakers are now back to record sales with Navratri'22 sales data showing a massive 57% jump when compared to Navratri’21. All categories had a big increase in sales with 2W, 3W, CV, PV and tractors increasing by 52%, 115%, 48%, 70%, and 58% respectively.
When compared to Navratri’19 (which was prior to covid), total retails increased by 16%. While two wheeler sales have shown increase along with CV and 3W but the real star is the PV segment with near double growth. PV sales in Navratri was 1,10,521 while '21 Navratri sales were 64,850.
It also shows the supply has started to improve and meet demand while semiconductor shortage seems to have eased off a bit for the automakers. Car sales have increased and showroom dispatches have increased too while newer launches continue to dominate sales with latest SUVs being the favourite for the consumer.
New SUV launches from Maruti Suzuki which includes the Grand Vitara and the Brezza continue to do well with Brezza dominating the sales charts along with recently launched Grand Vitara getting a high number of bookings. Other automakers like Mahindra with its new Scorpio N launch along with Tata continue to show impressive numbers while models like Hyundai Creta along with the recently launched Venue are firm favourites with the buyers too.
Demand for electric cars have also increased even though they are a fraction of the total car sales.
It is expected that this trend will continue till Deepawali plus on the back of newer launches, the buyer interest will be retained. That said, pre-Covid levels are yet to be surpassed with September 2022 still not managing to beat September 2019 levels. Along with cars, even two-wheeler sales have picked up and would also be expected to continue the trend.
