When we think of luxury cars, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes to our mind. The Maybach name attached to that means it is even more luxurious but now Mercedes-Benz has given the Maybach treatment to its biggest SUV to turn that into a mobile luxury mansion of sorts!
This is the GLS 600 Maybach and it is about taking the already 'most luxurious Mercedes SUV' and turning it into a private jet on wheels with the amount of luxury and features on-board. The Maybach brand is the ultra luxury offering within the Mercedes stable and looking at the popularity of SUVs, the GLS Maybach has been a perfect fit.
It has been launched in India and prices start at Rs 2.43 cr ex-showroom India and it has already been lapped up by buyers since the entire 2021 allocation has been sold out with 50 cars sold. So what's so special about this SUV? It is all about luxury here. The interior of course features wood trim and leather but there is a scope of high customization while the rear executive seating is the place to be.
The rear seats go further back than in the standard GLS and comes with leg rests along with having the ability to be inclined backwards up to 43.5°. This results in the vast legroom of 43.4" (1103 mm), in which the calf supports for both outer rear seats can be extended. They are standard for both seating configurations - the five-seater or the four-seater. If the front passenger seat is moved into the chauffeur position, there is up to 4.4 feet (1.34 m) of legroom behind it.
Then the rear seats are ventilated along with having a massage function while there is a large panoramic roof and electrically operated sunblinds. Elsewhere there is a continuous centre console at the rear which gets temperature- controlled cup holders and even a refrigerator!
There is also a MBUX Rear Tablet with a 7-inch screen to control functions while the 64 colour ambient lighting, folding tables along with a special fragrance made for this car, does make this cabin a special place for the rear passengers!
On the outside the GLS Maybach looks different from the standard GLS thanks to how the three-pointed sits on the bonnet to the Maybach grille. There are 22inch wheels as standard too! On the move, there is standard electronic air suspension along with a dedicated Maybach program while there is noise insulation technology added further over the standard model.
The engine happens to be a V8 petrol which is combined with the 48-volt system EQ Boost. The GLS Maybach then is the most luxurious SUV in India and is for those who want an SUV but also more luxury. We will tell you more in our review soon.
