As Maruti Suzuki is readying the new Swift in India, here is an early first look at the new generation model which would replace the older version. The Swift has been a brand which has been hugely popular in India and the new version is an evolution while not being a radical change as this car did not need one.

The India spec model is similar to the global Swift with only some feature changes. The design is an evolution but it is smoother and looks premium while maintaining the Swift shape which is already a hit in our market. The lines are more curvy though and the headlamps are bigger with the logo being placed above along with new fog lamps too.

There are new alloys as well while dual tone colours could also be offered. The Swift will also get new alloy wheels. Inside, there are bigger changes with a new design while there is still a flat bottom steering wheel, which is a Swift signature.

There are new steering controls though and the instrument cluster is also new. Elsewhere, the centre console has been completely changed with a larger 9-inch touchscreen with ac vents below along with new toggle switches.

The round knobs have been changed and replaced by conventional switchgear. The feature list includes an Arkamys audio system, rear view camera, connected car tech and climate control while it gets a manual handbrake. There is no ADAS on offer which was expected given the cost.

The new Swift also gets conventional door handles while rear seat space is expected to slightly improve. The new 1.2l three cylinder petrol may be down on power at 82bhp but it delivers more efficiency at 25.2 kmpl.

Like the Baleno, there would be an AMT plus a 5-speed manual as standard. The new Swift improves the feature quotient and fuel efficiency along with the more premium looks.
