The Jimny has been in the works for a long time and finally, it would be launched around May of this year. One of the crucial elements of the new Jimny for India has been the 5-door version since it brings a lot more practicality now and that is crucial for the SUV to gain mass appeal. The Jimny is still a lifestyle off-road SUV and the Brezza has a broader appeal, however, the interest level is huge and the success of the Thar means that there is a big market for offroad lifestyle-oriented vehicles.
While the ladder frame chassis or the 4x4 system of the Jimny has already been talked about. We will touch upon the space and the comfort of the Jimny. No matter how off-road competent the Jimny is, space on offer also does matter a lot. Here the move to launch a 5-door version has been very important. Hence, the Jimny now has a wheelbase of mm and that brings in more space. First of all, getting in and out of the Jimny is not an issue and it is not a huge climb like on other off-road centric SUVs. Inside, the front seats are accommodating enough despite being slim.
A tall passenger won't have a problem at all. The headroom is excellent and the tall roofline also means you can squeeze in way more luggage than you think you can.
With the rear seat in place, the luggage space isn't huge at litres but with the seat folded you can get litres. The rear seat itself is spacious for two passengers in terms of headroom while the slim seats carve out more space in terms of legroom. It does not feel compact or claustrophobic though and that is crucial with the 5-door version. Hence, while not being as roomy as a Brezza, the Jimny 5-door is way more spacious and comfortable than you imagine.
