Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the Jimny 5-door in India. The Jimny has finally come to India after many years of waiting and would be sold via the Nexa sales outlets and would be a proper 4x4 from Maruti which will rival the likes of the Thar. The Jimny sold in India comes in the 5-door form and that makes it more practical with two more doors.

Design-wise, the Jimny remains an attractive SUV with butch styling and an old-school look to it including a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The Jimny 5-door also comes with a healthy amount of cladding. Inside, the Jimny gets the usual Maruti design for the steering wheel but the switchgear has round chunky knobs like on the Swift. The feature list is also well-packed and includes.

The main highlight is the engine though since the Jimny has a 1.5l petrol which is also a mild hybrid for an electric boost while the numbers are 102 bhp and 130Nm. The gearbox options include a 4-speed automatic and a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Yes, the Jimny gets the older automatic gearbox in place of the 6-speed one on other Maruti cars.

Of course, what distinguishes the Jimny 5-door from the other Maruti cars is the AllGrip Pro 4WD. This is a much more off-road-oriented system over the Grand Vitara which is an AWD but not 4WD. The 4WD has a low ratio option or a 4H or four high.

This is critical for off-road driving while the ground clearance of the Jimny is also healthy. Despite the 5-door, the design and the length remain compact which will also make the Jimny quite competent off-road. The boxy off-road styling and the 4X4 capability make the Jimny unique since the Thar 5-door is yet to come for now.
