Maruti Suzuki has pressed the accelerator in terms of electric cars with its first electric vehicle (EV) being all set for an India launch by 2025 and with six in total planned for 2030. We all know that the first launch is an EV which is a ground-up product and developed with an electric platform along with Toyota.

Maruti Suzuki, while being late to the EV party wants to offer a range of EVs across many segments while the first one would be a Creta- sized rival. The eVX starts the electric offensive and is 4.3m in length while its 60kWh battery pack will result in a range of around 550km. All Suzuki EVs will be expected to have a front motor with regenerative braking.

Globally, Suzuki will be offering around 6 EVs by 2030 which includes Jimny EV, the eVX alongside electric versions of some of its global hatchbacks. The all new eVX electric SUV would be built in Gujarat while it has invested heavily in EV production along with EV battery development. A further push for EVs also includes making batteries which will bring down costs.

The other big EV launch is the electric version of the Jimny. The Jimny in its EV form will be updated to be an electric SUV rather than being a ground up car like the eVX. Yet with an electric powertrain, the Jimny will gain a lot more power while it would be expected to be having a dual motor powertrain with all wheel drive.

The Jimny electric version would also be having the four wheel drive system which is critical for the off-roaders appeal. The electric version of the Jimny would be based on the global 3 door version but the India spec model would be obviously based on the 5-door version built for India.
