One of the most talked about and most awaited SUVs in India this year is no doubt the Jimny from Maruti Suzuki. The Jimny is a proper 4x4 while being in the sub 4m category. For India, Maruti will launch the 5-door version, which makes this more practical too. However, there is already a compact 4x4 which is from Mahindra and we are not talking about the Thar. The Jimny five door will compete with the Bolero Neo, which is also a rugged but compact SUV. So, let's take a look at the two SUVs.

Which SUV Is Bigger?

The Bolero Neo is longer and wider but not by a big margin as the Jimny 5-door closely follows. The 5-door Jimny is long for India and gets a longer wheelbase too which makes it practical. The Neo is a TUV300 but with a different look and the car gets a different styling theme while maintaining the boxy Mahindra SUV look to it. The Jimny is boxy as well but gets round headlamps and some neat detailing while both the SUVs get a spare wheel mounted cover at the back.

What About The Interior And Features?

Both cars have a rugged and a boxy look with the Neo having an old school SUV feel along with a long throw gear lever. That said, with the Neo, Mahindra added some new features with better materials, 7inch touchscreen, dual airbags, parking sensors etc. The Jimny also gets a rugged cabin with a sportier look with different dials along with an off-road theme. It has a 9-inch touchscreen plus a rear camera, climate control with toggle switches, 6 airbags, connected car tech, wireless smartphone connectivity and more. The Jimny 5-door has a comfortable enough rear seat while the Neo has three row seating.

Which SUV Has The More Powerful Engine?

The Bolero Neo gets a sole diesel engine option with 100 bhp along with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Jimny on the hand is petrol only with a 1.5l unit with 105 bhp. Maruti has added an automatic version with a 4-speed automatic with the Jimny while standard is a 5-speed manual. The Jimny comes with a standard 4x4 system while the Bolero Neo has a mechanical locking differential.

What About The Prices?

The Bolero Neo is priced at Rs 9.4 lakh to Rs 11.9 lakh while we expect the Jimny 5-door to be starting from Rs 12 lakh onward. Both these SUvs are hardcore off-roaders built to handle tough terrain but the Jimny has 4x4 while the Neo gets a diesel option. The Neo is for those who want more space and practicality while the Jimny is a more lifestyle choice while 4x4 gives it an edge.
