Recently, there has been a shuffle across the Kia range with an RDE-compliant engine line-up along with some new updates. The Carens for example gets a new 1.5l turbo petrol powertrain while the Seltos gets a standard naturally aspirated 1.5l petrol engine. Both cars get a 1.5l diesel also which is compliant with the new norms. Both cars have had their 1.4l turbo petrol engine discontinued from the line-up while the upcoming new Seltos might get the new 1.5l turbo which currently finds its way into the Carens.

Before specifications, let us talk about dimensions and here the Carens is longer than the Seltos but both cars have the same width while the Carens has a longer wheelbase along with more ground clearance as well. Both cars are also well equipped with a sunroof, connected car tech, auto climate control and more. That said, the Seltos gets a 360-degree camera while the Carens gets more comfort-oriented features like a table at the back and sunshade curtains.

The Carens currently has a 160 bhp 1.5l turbo petrol with DCT along with paddle shifters while the 1.5l petrol and diesel engines are also there. The Carens 1.5l turbo gets an iMT unit and a DCT. The other change is the inclusion of an iMT with the diesel and a torque converter automatic.

The Seltos, meanwhile, gets the naturally aspirated 1.5l petrol with CVT and manual gearboxes. The diesel remains part of the top-end Seltos range which includes the GT Line and X Line with an automatic gearbox.

The Seltos prices now start from Rs 10.8 lakh while the top-end is Rs 19.6 lakh. The Carens meanwhile is priced between Rs 10.4 to Rs 18.9 lakh. The Carens currently has the more powerful engine in form of the turbo petrol while the Seltos comes across as the more stylish car with a sportier look although the Carens seems better value right now.
