Hero MotoCorp launched its Vida electric brand and the first product is the V1 which is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh starting while being available in two versions. With Hero coming into the electric scooter segment, the Vida V1 will directly compete with the likes of the Ola S1 and the Ather 450X.
Electric start-ups are leading the charge in terms of electric scooters with the controversial Ola S1 doing good numbers but also affected by numerous issues. Hero on the other hand has led with the slogan of being 'India's not-first electric scooter coming soon' and a subtle dig at its rival.
Hero has claimed that getting the scooter right was more important than launching it first which means that the Vida has been tested for over 2 lakh km. There are initiatives also like a buy back scheme.
All these factors are important when comparing electric scooters as range or performance are not the only factors.
In terms of range and performance, the Vida V1 has a battery pack of 3.95 kWh along with a 165km range for the Pro version. The Ola S1 Pro has a 3.97 kWh battery with a 181km range. The Ather has a 3.7 kWh battery with a range of 146km. The Ola has the highest top-speed though amongst all.
Fast charging capabilities available in all of these scooters including portable chargers while being able to charge via home charging too. However, the Vida scooter has the option of a swappable battery. All three electric scooters are tech loaded in terms of features with a touchscreen and paired to smartphone including OTA updates. Plus all three get riding modes too but the Vida V1 has an extra mode where you can customize the regen or performance to suit to your liking.
The Vida V1 Plus and Pro are priced between Rs 1.45/1.59 lakh while the Ola S1 Pro is priced at Rs 1.39 lakh along with the Ather 450X being priced at Rs 1.55 lakh. The Vida is the most expensive but the buyback scheme, extra features and the promise of added safety makes it a scooter to watch out for.
