Bookings for the diesel Innova Crysta have been apparently stopped in India and only petrol Innova bookings can be done for the next few months which means that the road might have stopped for the popular Innova diesel. The Innova Crysta diesel has been the backbone of the total Innova sales in India and its popularity continues to be strong despite hefty price hikes so it might seem surprising that the diesel Innova bookings have been stopped.
While customers can book the petrol Innova, it could be to make way for the upcoming new generation Innova which would come with a petrol hybrid powertrain or a re-launch of the diesel current Innova with some changes. Official communication has not come from Toyota but there are some clear things which would happen including the fact that the next generation Innova will be sold alongside the current Innova Crysta plus the fact that the next generation Innova due next year will be coming with a hybrid powertrain and not diesel or petrol.

Toyota has been about hybrid powertrains and as seen with the Hyryder so it is also preparing for a hybrid future as well with its popular Innova or even the Fortuner. The next generation Innova would be hugely different being based on a new platform, a new hybrid powertrain and a lot more luxurious interior. However, fans of the current Innova diesel and toughness that the platform brings will still get to buy the current Innova Crysta though yet again Toyota can make this a fleet option with the next generation Innova taking centre stage.
The diesel-engined Innova still has a huge fan following in India and we think this could be a temporary pause before bookings again start along with pushing the petrol Innova more plus also testing the market for a probable future with the hybrid models. It is quite clear that the future of diesel cars is in question but what is not clear is how long diesel cars continue to be offered because, with high fuel prices, diesel still has huge demand and still makes sense.
