Citroen will launch the Basalt with not one but multiple engine options including a naturally aspirated 1.2 petrol which develops 80 bhp and 115Nm of torque. Then the more powerful engine is the 1.2l turbo petrol unit that develops more power at 109 bhp. The naturally aspirated unit has 80 bhp and is equipped with a 5-speed manual only while being an entry level offering. The car will be launched on August 7.
The turbo petrol has 190Nm torque with the 6-speed manual gearbox while a torque converter automatic version develops 205Nm. The least efficient engine in the Basalt is the 1.2 naturally aspirated unit with 18 kmpl mileage while the 1.2 turbo automatic is the most efficient at 19.5 kmpl.
The Basalt would be launched next month and is based on the C3 Aircross platform as well. That said, the Basalt is a much more attractive looking car with the SUV coupe like design. There are also two alloy wheel options and the Basalt also comes with six different colours on offer as well with a contrast Black roof.
The feature list includes LED headlights, automatic climate control, armrests, rear camera, wireless charging, 6 airbags and new to the Basalt is the fact that it gets adjustable thigh support for the rear seat. Citroen claims a long wheelbase and a large boot space as well.
The Basalt is crucial for the carmaker as it tries to gain market share in India. Stay tuned to the review of the Basalt in the coming days as we bring more details of this new SUV. The Basalt will not be the only coupe SUV though as the Tata Curvv is also coming soon.
