BYD is one of the biggest names in terms of EVs and in India it has stepped up with its BYD Atto 3 EV and the e6 MPV. Globally it has a bigger range and in China it caters to a huge growing EV market. There it has introduced its most affordable EV which is also curiously similar to the Ford Ecosport that we once had in India. The overall size is similar to the EcoSport but it is above 4m while the window line plus the side is pure EcoSport. Where there are differences is in the design with the Yuan Pro getting the latest Dragon Face 3.0 design plus the thick chrome slat on the blanked off grille is also like on other BYD cars.

The EV has a range of 401 kilometres and claims to have a 0-50 km/h time of 3.9 seconds. If we talk regarding the specifications, this EV comes with a permanent magnet synchronous single motor, with a maximum power of 100kW and a maximum torque of 210N·m.

There is also the lithium iron phosphate Blade Battery of course. Inside, it is way more luxurious than a Ford EcoSport though with a different touchscreen and a large digital instrument cluster as well with a lot of features which is typical of BYD cars.

This car is for global markets and its chances to come to India are slim but it could be one of the cheapest EV SUVs if indeed it comes here. It is an affordable family EV but it is indeed a Ford EcoSport knock off and that is clearly visible- right down to the spare wheel at the back. As for India, BYD will introduce more products including a new premium EV that it has shown at the Auto Expo.
