The 2023 Auto Expo will have a lot of shiny new cars but as an affordable new car, the tiny MG Air could be one of the game changers with its electric powertrain plus the small footprint. The MG Air is a purpose-built urban electric car and the India spec version could have a healthy range from about 200-250km. Size-wise, this is made for cramped city centres while the design has been built to maximise interior space.
The radical new looks are also different with two large doors along with a full-length light bar too. This car would make 40-50hp of power while the expected pricing could rival the likes of the Tiago EV. The positioning of this car could be different from the Tiago EV though as MG could spec a long feature list with the car and make it appealing as a third car for households.

The packaging with the small size is intelligent with the EV architecture squeezing out a lot of space inside. In China, the car is offered in four trims and has a range of up to 300kms while being successful in that market in terms of sales. The interior seems premium with dual screens including an infotainment touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster as well. Top-speed of the car is around 100 km/h while there is support for fast DC charging too.
MG already sells the ZS EV in India and MG Air could be a more volume focussed buy. At the Auto Expo, it would be one of the most affordable new cars showcased there while pricing plus other details would be shown post-Auto Expo unveil.
MG will also showcase the new generation Hector and the 4 premium hatchback at the show.
