Cars will hold the centre stage as major bike-makers have given the 2023 Auto Expo a miss. Nearly all major two-wheeler makers have chosen not to participate and only a few major carmakers would be seen attending. While two-wheelers won't be the talking point of the show, there would be some major car unveils and launches which will overshadow the lack of any two-wheeler unveils or launches. A few carmakers like Hyundai, Tata, Toyota, and Maruti along with MG and Kia will participate in the show and will make up for the long list of absentees. Previous years have also seen a tilt towards more car unveils than bike ones.

As we have discussed before also, the 2023 Auto Expo comes back after the last event was postponed due to COVID. The last Auto Expo event was in 2020 which also had fewer participants than the previous one.

One of the factors and the major one is the lack of new products from the bike makers or car-makers and the fact that their launch calendar did not match with the Expo, hence most auto companies have backed out. Other reasons are the increasing cutting down of marketing spends and the cost involved in participating.

Globally too, physical motor shows have shrunk in size with digital spends increasing and carmakers looking at other avenues besides participating in the show.

That said, the motor show still has appeal and with India being one of the target markets in terms of overall car sales, a motor show presence still has an impact in terms of a new product launch or a global unveil.

Hence, we will see various car launches and unveils at the 2023 Auto Expo from the automakers who are participating.
