Electric mobility is on the cusp of going mainstream and higher customer acceptance has been seen this year with increasing EV sales. However, the electric motor car is still in its infancy with developing technologies and how the automobile adapts to a battery pack, instead of an engine. For our 'EV of the year category', there were many capable contenders who pushed forward the electric motor car with one emerging as a clear winner in the end. The EQS from Mercedes-Benz is not only India's most efficient electric car but showcases how practical an EV can be along with becoming a viable alternative to a conventional car.

There were many points that impressed the judges but the biggest factor in the EQS 580 being a winner is its 857km certified range. That is the highest amongst electric cars and that means you can basically nearly drive for a week or cover a large distance without needing to charge. For an EV, that is the biggest leap in technology in extending the range per charge. The EQS 580 does that due to its aerodynamic shape along with its battery technology plus performance.

There is a massive 107.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack and two electric motors which propel this big car to huge speeds in no time while it gets all the EV-related features along with navigation which carefully tunes in EV charging stations along the way. Even in the real world, the EQS gave us the highest range that we tested during our own evaluation which further cemented its position as the EV of the year. With electric cars being touted as the future, it is cars like the EQS which showcase how far a regular production car can go in the rear world per charge.

Along with the range, the smooth performance with the sheer amount of technologies on offer also impressed the judges. There is a massive 56-inch hyper screen that covers the entire dashboard and includes three displays with even a passenger-side touchscreen.

The EQS 580 is all about technology and showcasing how electric mobility is one of the important pillars for automobiles in the near future.
