BMW has launched the new generation 5 Series LWB sedan in India with a starting price of Rs 72.9 lakh. This is the first time that the 5 Series is coming in a long wheelbase form but it is interesting to note that the electric version does not come in long wheelbase form.

In terms of length, the new 5 Series LWB measures at 5175 mm long and that makes it the longest in its class. The wheelbase of the new 5 Series is also much longer at 3,105 mm.

All that space goes on the inside with the rear seat being the highlight here and it has a long rear door as well. The interior meanwhile has a new BMW curved display with a 14.9 inch touchscreen and a 12.3 inch digital driver display.

Features include the latest BMW OS, hidden AC vents, 18 speaker  Bowers and Wilkins Audio system, matrix LED lamps, ventilated seats, ADAS, a glass roof and vegan leather used inside plus more. First few units also get personalised headrest initials embossed.

In terms of the engine options, the new 5 Series LWB comes with a turbo petrol only with a mild hybrid setup.

For the Indian market, the suspension has been worked on but it does not get air suspension.

For BMW, the 5 Series is one of their most important cars while the LWB is the biggest change for this car and this puts it in direct competition with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class which would also soon get a new update.
