YSR Telangana Party president YS Sharmila met Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi at their residence on Thursday. Sharmila said that the meeting was very constructive and Telangana CM KCR's countdown has begun. The meeting has come at a time when there were discussions regarding the merger of her party with Congress. 


YSRTP chief YS Sharmila says “I met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi today. A very constructive discussion was held. I will keep working for the welfare of the people. I want to tell you one thing, Telangana CM KCR's countdown has begun."

She left Sonia Gandhi's residence 30 minutes later after the meeting. However, Sharmila's plan to join the Congress or combine her party with Congress has not been discussed by the party in any detail. Sharmila is the daughter of Late CM YSR and the sister of Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.


Sharmila met the Congress leaders amid Opposition from a section of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leaders. TPCC chief Revanth Reddy has previously expressed his displeasure about the merger and expressed his opposition to working with Sharmila and her brother AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, said a report on News9Live. 


On the other hand, a few other Congress leaders are in favour of the YSR Telangana with Congress. 


Sharmila's party has a presence in Telangana and additionally, it has been reported that Sharmila and Jagan Mohan Reddy, the leader of the YSR Congress Party, are not on good terms.


The Congress has been preparing for the high-stakes election for Telangana's 119-member Assembly later this year where it intends to unseat the Bharath Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led by incumbent K. Chandrashekar Rao.
