Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra Sworn In As New Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court
Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra is the third Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. Governor Bishwabhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office to him.
Hyderabad: Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Governor Bishwa Bhusan Harichandan administered the oath of office to Justice Prashant Kumar in the presence of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and other ministers and judges of the high court.
Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra was born on August 29, 1964, in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh (then Madhya Pradesh). He did his BSc and LLB from Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur, and became a lawyer on September 4, 1987.
He has practised as a lawyer in the Raigarh District Court, and later in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh high courts. Appointed as a judge of Chhattisgarh High Court on December 10, 2009, he was later appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

Justice Prashant is the third chief justice since the state was bifurcated in 2014. The first chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari, who is currently a Supreme Court judge. Justice Arup Goswami became the CJ after Justice Maheshwari.
According to a report in ABP Desam, several key cases are pending in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The cases related to the Amaravati controversy — which pertains to the issues of farmers whose land was pooled for the state capital development — were heard while Justice JK Maheshwari was the chief justice. The trial was adjourned until he was transferred. The trial of the Amravati cases is likely to begin again now.
