A senior leader from the ruling YSR Congress party accused Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y. S. Sharmila of exploiting her family name to sow confusion among the public. He, however, alleged that by this Sharmila was only making a mockery of herself. The statement was prompted after Sharmila's strong criticism of the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and her brother YS Jagan Reddy soon after assuming the role of AP Congress president.

Senior party leader S. Ramakrishna Reddy, who serves as the advisor (public affairs) to the YSRCP government in the state, expressed disappointment with the choice of words, tone, and tenor used by Sharmila in her speech after assuming the role of APCC chief. He highlighted that party leaders were collectively uneasy about the manner in which she addressed her brother.

"She is making a fool of herself by misusing her family name 'YS' to create confusion among people. There is no room for that confusion and there is no need for anyone to get confused," Ramakrishna Reddy told reporters, as per PTI.

Ramakrishna Reddy noted that Sharmila's critique of her elder brother had left party activists feeling hurt. Reminding Sharmila of the Congresses' history, Ramakrishna Reddy pointed out that it was the same party that allegedly unjustly imprisoned her brother Jagan Mohan Reddy for 16 months and implicated her father Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in corruption cases.

According to Ramakrishna Reddy, Sharmila seemed to alter her accent, tone, and tenor when addressing Congress party supporters, often echoing the rhetoric of TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu. He alleged that Sharmila's objective was to aid Chandrababu Naidu in becoming the chief minister. He also said that she was used as a tool to split the votes of Rajasekhara Reddy's supporters.

Ramakrishna Reddy highlighted the inconsistency in Sharmila's stance, noting that while she supported her brother during his imprisonment, she now went as far as allegedly labeling him a dictator.

This development unfolded days after Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Reddy met his sister and participated in the engagement ceremony of Sharmila's son.
