Andhra Pradesh CID started questioning TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh in connection with Amaravati Inner Ring Road scam case on Tuesday. Lokesh arrived at the CID's Economic Offences Wing-II office in Tadepalli, Guntur district at 9:55 am. The CID had named Lokesh as accused number 14 (A-14) in the case. Earlier, the CID issued a notice to Lokesh to appear before it for questioning in Inner Ring Road case.
According to IANS, CID officials are likely to question him till 5 p.m.
The case involves "manipulating" Amaravati capital city's master plan, inner ring road alignment, and seed capital to allegedly offer undue enrichment to various companies during Naidu's tenure as chief minister.
Lokesh is the son of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
The CID requested that Lokesh provide bank account details for Heritage Foods Ltd initially. However, they later waived this requirement. Furthermore, the CID allowed Lokesh to have his lawyers present during questioning, though they must remain at an inaudible distance.
By the end of September, Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail petition of Nara Lokesh.
Nara Lokesh approached Andhra Pradesh HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case. Earlier, Lokesh's lawyer moved the petition on TDP leader's behalf since he was in Delhi.
Earlier, sources said investigators are to issue Section 41-A CrPC to the opposition MLC asking him to appear for questioning.
Following the move, Nara Lokesh and his supporters staged a protest at the residence of TDP MP Jayadev Galla.
While speaking to media, Nara Lokesh said, "It has been close to 20 days that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been sent to judicial remand."
"It is nothing but revenge. The facts of the case are very clear, there is no money trail because no crime has been committed. This government has misused their office," he said.
