Ahead of the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered the immediate transfer of Andhra Pradesh's Director General of Police (DGP) KV Rajendranath Reddy. The move comes amidst preparations for the simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 13, with vote counting set for June 4.

According to sources cited by PTI, the state government has been instructed to furnish a panel of three eligible Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of director general rank by May 6, 2024. The reasons behind this sudden transfer remain undisclosed.

ECI Transferred Andhra Pradesh's Intelligence Chief, Vijayawada Police Commissioner

This transfer follows earlier actions by the Election Commission in April, where Andhra Pradesh's intelligence chief P Sitaramanjaneyulu and Vijayawada police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata were also transferred abruptly.

Confirming the transfers, Andhra Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena informed of the Election Commission's directive. "The Commission has ordered transfer of the following officer with immediate effect – P Sitaramanjaneyulu, DGP, Intelligence," stated the EC in its order.

The directive mandated that the transferred officers relinquish their duties immediately to the next officer in rank. Moreover, the Commission stipulated that the transferred officers are not to be assigned any election-related duties until the conclusion of the simultaneous polls in the state.

These transfers came in the aftermath of a recent incident involving an attack on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Vijayawada, raising concerns about security measures in the state. He was injured after a stone was pelted at him during a party rally.

In light of these developments, the Election Commission also directed the chief secretary to submit a panel of three IPS officers for consideration.
