Hyderabad: A 21-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly tried to kill her fiancé by slitting his throat, reports said.
According to the police, accused Vijayapu Pushpa did not want to marry the man, A Ramunaidu, because the match had been fixed by her family allegedly against her wish. The police said Pushpa attacked Ramunaidu after blindfolding him on the pretext of giving him a surprise gift. She allegedly tied her dupatta around the victim's eyes, and slashed his throat and fled.
The incident occurred Monday in Amarapuri village under Butchayyapeta Mandal of the newly-formed Anakapalli district. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil said on Tuesday that they interrogated Pushpa who confessed to the crime.

On Monday, they decided to meet and went out on a Scooty. The police said Pushpa asked Ramunaidu to stop somewhere at Vaddadi and went to a shop alone, saying she wanted to buy something for him. When she returned, she did not reveal what she had bought for him and asked Ramunaidu to take her to Vishwashanti Jyotirmayi Ashram.
After reaching there, Pushpa allehgedly asked him to close his eyes, and then tied her dupatta around his eyes. She then slit his throat with a knife she had brought along, the police said.
Local residents shifted a profusely bleeding Ramunaidu to a hospital. He told the police that Pushpa told him before leaving the spot that she did not want to marry him, and that she attacked her because her parents would not have agreed to cancel the wedding.
The girl told the police that she did not want to marry anybody as she wanted to spend the life of a devotee at Om Shanti Ashram. "She said she wanted to remain single, like women who live at ashrams, and spend their lives in service of the God. She said she wanted to live peacefully and didn’t want to get married. She said she didn’t know what else to do," a report in The News Minute said, quoting Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar.
Ramunaidu, who is from the same district, is doing a PhD from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) in Hyderabad. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Anakapalli, and his condition is now stated to have improved.
