Hyderabad: Telugu Desam Party Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna on Friday took part in a mouna deeksha (silent protest) demanding the state government to announce Hindupuram as the district headquarters.


Speaking to the media, the actor-turned-politician said that if required he is ready to tender his resignation for his post to get Hindupur as a district headquarter. He further claimed that Hindupur has all facilities to make it a district headquarters.


Balakrishna, who reached Hindupur on Thursday, took out a rally along with residents of the town from the Potti Sriramulu Center to the Ambedkar Center. Following this, he started a sit-in silent protest at the Ambedkar Center. 


The YSRCP government divided the Anantapur district by parliamentary constituencies have announced Sri Sathyasai district's formation with Puttaparthi as its center despite Hindupur ticking all the boxes to become a district headquarter, claimed Hindupur MLA. The people of Hindupur were outraged by this decision.


The people of Hindupur were dejected with the YSRCP government's decision of giving a skip to Hindupur and making Puttaparthi a district as the residents have also been waiting for Hindupur to become the district headquarters.

After the protest, Balakrishna will meet all the parties, NGOs and communities in the Hindupur constituency. The Hindupur district should be achieved by applying pressure on the government, he said.


YSR Congress party leaders are also demanding the party high command to make Hindupur a district headquarters. They have been convincing the CM and have assured the people of the town to achieve Hindupur district headquarters.
