Hyderabad: Amid the Andhra Pradesh government coming under severe criticism from the opposition in the state for not taking measures to slash to the growing concern of narcotics menace, two persons were reportedly arrested on Wednesday in East Godavari district's Chintoor area for smuggling Rs 2 crore worth cannabis.


According to a report in the Deccan Chronicle, the agency police a month ago decide to use sniffer dogs and drone to curb the smuggling of marijuana in state which is on a alarming rate in state.






In a series of a thread on Twitter, actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan slammed the government for failing to cease the growing cannabis menace in Andhra Pradesh. Reportedly in the past few years the weed is allegedly grown in around 10,000 acres of land in Andhra Odisha Border (AOB). Students and school dropouts are used as pilots of the vehicles which transport the weed to other parts of the country, according to the report. 


Visakhapatnam rural police have seized nearly 32,000 Kg of ganja worth Rs 6 crore in 2017, in 2018 ganja worth Rs 3.2 crore was seized while 22,000 kgs of ganja was being smuggled came into police notice in 2019 and around 23,500 kg worth Rs 5 crore of weed was caught in 2020.
