Chennai: Andhra Pradesh Police arrested a man after he encouraged his wife to commit suicide by hanging and recorded the entire act in his mobile phone. The horrific incident took place near Atmakur town of Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. 


The accused was identified as M Penchalaiah, a resident of Nellore, who was working as a security guard at one of the ATMs of a private bank. The deceased was identified as his wife, Kondamma, who was working as a resource person in the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA). The couple was married for 12 years and had two children. 


According to police officials, the accused had been suspecting the victim’s character and had been constantly harassing her. On Wednesday, Penchalaiah had fought with his wife suspecting her character. Kondamma couldn't tolerate the harassment and had threatened to commit suicide. The accused, instead of stopping her from taking extreme steps, had encouraged her to end her life. The accused had recorded the entire act in his mobile phone and uploaded it on social media.

According to a report in IANS, the man was heard asking the victim to ‘go ahead’ in the video that had gone viral on social media when she attempted to hang herself to a ceiling fan with a cloth. Instead of protecting his wife, he was seen prompting her to end her life in the video. He even sent the video to his in-laws. 


Sub-inspector Sivasankar said that police officials had arrested Penchalaiah for abetment of suicide. He was produced before a judicial magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
