Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh (AP) is celebrating its 65th state formation day. On November 1, 1965, Andhra was merged with Telangana to form an undivided state.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the people of Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of the state formation day. He praised the people of AP for their "skill, determination, and perseverance."
Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, "Greetings to my sisters and brothers in Andhra Pradesh. AP people are examples of their skill, determination, and perseverance. Hence they excel in many fields. I want AP people to be happy, healthy, and prosperous."
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, AP Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, and several political dignitaries wished the state people on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh formation Day.
"Today is the State Inauguration Day which is being observed due to the sacrifices of many great personalities like Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu Garu. With your cooperation, I am taking steps to lead this state of development in all spheres of action that they have achieved", said AP CM Jagan on state formation day.
The Andhra Pradesh formation Day celebrations were held at the YSRCP headquarters in Thadepalli. Minister Vellampalli Srinivas, MLC Lella Appireddy, and MLA Meruga Nagarjuna paid tributes to Potti Sriramulu.
Andhra Pradesh continued the celebration of State Formation Day on November 1 till 2014 when Telangana was carved out. After becoming the new Chief Minister of a truncated Andhra Pradesh, N Chandrababu Naidu decided to celebrate the State Formation Day on June 2.
However, after coming to power in 2019, the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government reverted the state formation day celebration to November 1.
