The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former YSRCP MP Kothapalli Geetha in connection with a bank cheating case on Wednesday. The CBI had, in June 2015, filed a charge sheet against Geetha and her husband, the MD of Vishweswara Infrastructure, for allegedly defrauding the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Hyderabad.


According to the ABP Desam report, the court sentenced the bank officials BK Jayaprakashan and KK Aravindakshan to five years imprisonment for their involvement in this scam. The CBI court imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Vishweshwara Infrastructure Private Limited. Geetha's husband and bank officials were taken to Chanchalguda Jail.


She moved to the Telangana High Court for bail. The petition is yet to be heard. 


Kothapalli Geetha was elected as MP in 2014 on a YSRCP ticket, and later distanced herself from the party. She was among those who met Amit Shah when he visited Hyderabad recently.

Earlier, Kothapalli Geetha worked as a bank employee, later succeeded in the Group 1 examinations, and was selected as a Deputy Collector in the united Andhra Pradesh. Since 1999, She served in various positions as a Sub-Collector, Special Deputy Collector (Land Protection), Revenue Divisional Officer, Land Acquisition Officer, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Special Officer in Survey, Land Records etc.


She quit her job in 2010 and started a business with her husband. Later she entered politics and won the 2014 elections from the Araku Lok Sabha constituency seat on a YSRCP ticket.
