Hyderabad: A 14-year-old girl lost her life when an autorickshaw fell into a rivulet in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district after being hit head-on by a truck on Thursday night. Five other occupants of the autorickshaw were washed away in the water and are feared dead.
According to the Nellore police, the three-wheeler was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction when it was crossing a bridge near Sangam, and it plunged into the Beeraperu stream.
The autorickshaw had 12 people travelling in it, and all of them were from the same family. They were on their way to a Shivalayam for a special puja. Local residents managed to rescue three of them, while four others swam to safety. Nagavali (14) had been rescued but she died in a hospital later. The injured were rushed to a nearby government hospital.

District Superintendent of Police Vijaya Rao said rescue workers are searching for the five missing persons. The rescue mission included Coast Guard personnel as well as experienced divers.
Nellore District Joint Collector Harendira Prasad also came to the spot and supervised the rescue operations.
Since the cyclone in November, when the district was flooded, the district's streams and rivers have been overflowing.
