New Delhi: Days after an 80-year-old man died due to an electric vehicle battery explosion in Telangana's Nizamabad, yet another similar incident took place in Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada where K Siva Kumar, a 42-year-old DTP operator, lost his life due to a battery blast of his new Boom Corbett 14 electric scooter.

The victim, Siva Kumar, bought the e-scooter on Friday and reportedly plugged it in for charging the battery in the living room of his house, said The Hindu report.

"The vehicle was in the front room and they slept in the room behind it when the battery exploded at around 3 AM. Following the explosion, the electric wiring of the house got burnt emanating smoke. In a hurry, the family moved to the kitchen and were stuck as there was no exit," The Hindu said, quoting Suryaraopet CI V Janaki Ramaiah.

The neighbours, who noticed the fire accident, came to the rescue of Siva Kumar's family, who were caught up inside the house. They called up the police and ambulance services.

Siva Kumar reportedly succumbed to the burn injuries while rushing him to the hospital as his wife and children were admitted to a private hospital with 30 per cent burn injuries.

The police registered a case and an investigation is underway. Meanwhile, Boom Motors representatives are likely to inspect the vehicle to single out the reason for the mishap.
