New York [USA], July 15 (ANI): The police on Friday arrested two minors for their alleged involvement in the string of acid attacks that ripped London on Thursday in just over an hour.

According to the police, a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody on grounds of performing the gruesome attacks. Subsequently, another boy aged 15 years was also arrested by the police on similar suspicions, reports CNN.

In a shocking case of bodily assault, two men riding a moped threw acid on individuals in five separate attacks.

The Metropolitan Police said the assaults appeared to be linked and two involved victims having their mopeds stolen, while adding that one victim had been left with "life-changing" injuries, reports the Independent.

The incidents occurred on the streets of Hackney, Stoke Newington and Islington within a 72-minute interval.

At the start of the rampage, a 32-year-old moped driver had been approached by the pair as he drove towards the Hackney Road junction with Queensbridge Road.

The attackers had tossed the corrosive substance into his face before one of them jumped on to his vehicle and drove away.

A report published recently has shown a steep increase in the number of acid attacks in London over the last couple of years, with over 450 attacks being reported in 2016 alone. (ANI)
