New York [US], December 21 (ANI): Ahead of UN vote on United States President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley on Thursday said they will remember the day in which it was singled out.

She further said that US will put its embassy in Jerusalem regardless of the vote, which is widely expected to go against it.

"The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the UN General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation...America will put its embassy in Jerusalem. This vote will make a difference in how Americans look at the UN. This vote will be remembered," she said at the 37th plenary meeting of 10th emergency special session of UN General Assembly.

Issuing a direct threat to the UNGA, Haley said that the US will think twice about funding the world body if it votes against President Trump's decision.

"We will remember it when, once again, we are called up to make the world's largest contribution" to the UN and when other member nations ask Washington "to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit," she quoted as saying by CNN.

The U.N. General Assembly will hold an emergency session today to vote on the draft resolution calling on the US to withdraw its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Earlier, Haley said "the US will be taking names" of countries that vote in favour of the resolution.

Earlier, President Trump had also threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favour of the U.N. draft resolution.

The US has vetoed an Egyptian-drafted UN Security Council resolution that called on countries not to establish diplomatic missions in Jerusalem.

The one-page Egyptian draft resolution, without any mention of the U.S. or Trump, expresses "deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem".
