Kathmandu [Nepal] July 11(ANI): Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated a library built by the Indian Government in the presence of Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri on Tuesday.

The Indian Embassy handed over a three-storied building for the Library of the Nepal Academy.

Nepal received financial assistance of NRs. 43.94 million from India for construction of the building.

The inaugural event was attended by representatives of Ministries of Urban Development, Culture, Civil Aviation and Tourism, Government of Nepal, community leaders and a large number of friends of the India-Nepal relationship.

"The newly constructed library building would provide research and reference facilities to the researchers and academicians of India and Nepal. The library would also have a facility of an advanced offset press for printing of books," stated the statement from the Indian Mission in Nepal.

With the assistance from the Indian Government for the construction of the building, the Nepal Academy has further planned to develop the library as a digital library.

"The library would not only enhance the friendly relation between India and Nepal but also help develop a strong bond among artists and academicians of the two countries," the statement added.

With the completion and handing over of the building the Government of India, so far, had completed Projects worth NRs. 486.5 million in Kathmandu District only which included Schools, Libraries, Hospitals and other health facilities, Art Gallery, Food Laboratory, Hostel Buildings for Women & Girls and Community Centers.

Along with this, there are twelve projects under different stages of construction with Indian assistance of NRs. 407 million. In addition, the Government of India had donated 47 ambulances, 3 special medical van and 41 buses to various organizations in Kathmandu District.

Established in 1957, the Nepal Academy is a Government of Nepal Organisation and is a counterpart of Sahitya Academy of India.

The Nepal Academy is a premier national institution devoted to the promotion of languages, literature, culture, philosophy, research and the overall development of cultural and intellectual fields by bringing together and coordinating national and international activities. (ANI)
