New Delhi [India], Aug 11 (ANI): Raksha Bandhan is around the corner and it's a festival that needs no introduction. The market is filled with designer rakhis in various shapes, sizes and colors, you can even get one customized online. But, as we usher into festivities and celebrate the bond between brothers and sisters, why not give something back to the environment as well?
TRIFED, an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is selling Eco-friendly Rakhis handcrafted from cloth and seed paper with a perfect blend of traditional workmanship and modern aesthetic. These are available at Tribal India outlets and e-commerce portals including tribesindia.com, Amazon, Snapdeal, PayTM and Flipkart.
The initiative is themed 'Let us tie this bond of responsibility and care towards our environment too by indulging in eco- friendly plantable rakhis'. A combination of traditional workmanship and modern aesthetics, these rakhis are handcrafted using cloth, Tulsi, marigold seeds and paper by Sahariya Tribal women of Orchha in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Besides this, they are also selling Plantable Rakhi Kits, which include 1 plantable pencil (lupin flower), 1 plantable letter (tomato) and round paper boxes for Roli and Chawal.
TRIFED has made an effort to generate livelihood opportunities in order to empower the Tribal communities working in craft sector by developing festive wear clothing and other decorative items used in these times of celebrations.
With this, Ministry of Tribal Affairs is also trying to promoting the local artisans and empowering them to develop new products. (ANI)
