'Delhi Chalo' Day 7: Farmers Reject Centre's 5-Year MSP Proposal. Top Points

Farmer leaders rejected the Centre's five-year proposal of procuring pulses, maize, and cotton at MSP.

The panel of three Union ministers presented the proposal during the fourth round of talks in Chandigarh.

The farmer leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, announced the rejection, stating it was not in farmers' interest.

After discussions in two forums, the decision was made to reject the Centre's proposal.

Piyush Goyal, in the fourth round of talks, proposed contracts with cooperative societies for 'tur dal,' 'urad dal,' 'masoor dal,' or maize at MSP for five years.

Goyal suggested no quantity limit on the purchased crops and the development of a portal for the process.

The Cotton Corporation of India was proposed to buy cotton at MSP for five years through a legal agreement.

Protesting farmers remained at Shambhu and Khanauri points after clashes during the 'Delhi Chalo' march were halted.

The farmers demand a legal guarantee of MSP, Swaminathan Commission's recommendations, pension, debt waiver, and other rights.
