What Is Model Code of Conduct?

The Model Code of Conduct implies that the political parties have to comply with a set of rules failing which they would attract action from the poll panel

The MCC was first observed in the country during the 1960 LS polls

The Model Code of Conduct remains in place until the completion of the entire polling process

The exhaustive list includes a code of conduct for holding poll rallies, meetings, and processions by the political parties and candidates

The MCC also contains a code of conduct on polling day, at the polling booth, and guidelines of election manifesto

After the implementation of the MCC, the parties or candidates shall not include in any activity that may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension

The criticism made against political parties will be confined to thier policies and programmes past record and work and not against any aspect of private life, not connected with the public activities of the leaders or workers of other parties

No appeal can be made to caste or communal feeling for securing votes

No place of worship such as mosques, churches, temples will be used for election propaganda

Organising demonstrations or picketing before the houses of individuals by way of protesting against their opinions or activities shall not be resorted to under any circumstances
