Mahadangal: Ceasefire or Just a Pause? Defence Analysts Warn of Fresh Escalation Between Iran and Israel

ABP News Bureau   |  25 Jun 2025 09:52 AM (IST)

In the recent Maha Dangal debate, Lt. Gen. Shankar Prasad and Maj. Gen. Ashwini Siwach raised serious concerns over US President Donald Trump’s unpredictable statement about being "very unhappy" with Israel. Experts warned that Trump's position could reverse within hours, as seen in the past. The discussion comes after both Israel and Iran reportedly violated the proposed ceasefire. Lt. Gen. Prasad emphasized that trust is missing from all sides, with uncertainty surrounding how militant organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis might respond. He also questioned what Trump's reaction would be if there were further attacks on American bases. Maj. Gen. Siwach highlighted that the recent Iranian attack on a US base in Qatar was likely symbolic, aimed at domestic audiences. He added that although a ceasefire may temporarily stabilize the region, Iran will likely continue pursuing nuclear ambitions. Any long-term peace remains doubtful. The panel concluded that while the ceasefire is a relief for now, especially for the global economy due to Middle Eastern oil dependencies, the situation remains fragile and volatile, with the potential to escalate at any moment.
