West Bengal Politics: Expelled TMC Leader Humayun Kabir Launches New Party in Murshidabad

ABP News Bureau   |  22 Dec 2025 12:55 PM (IST)

In a significant political development from West Bengal, former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Humayun Kabir is set to formally announce his new political party today in Murshidabad. Kabir, who was earlier expelled from the TMC, has been in the spotlight since laying the foundation stone of the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad earlier this month. His political move is being seen as an early signal ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The formal announcement is scheduled during a large public gathering, where preparations indicate a massive turnout. According to ground reports, a grand stage has been set up, and posters of the new party have appeared across Murshidabad. Sources confirm that the new party will be named Janta Unnayan Party, with a stated focus on public welfare and development. Even before launching the party, Humayun Kabir has made bold electoral claims, asserting that his party will contest all 294 Assembly seats and aims to win at least 90 to 100 seats in the 2026 elections. He has clarified that his political fight will be against both the TMC and the BJP, while also indicating openness to alliances with Congress, the Left parties, ISF, and other anti-TMC, anti-BJP forces. Kabir’s entry is expected to impact minority vote dynamics in Bengal, especially in Murshidabad, making his political debut closely watched across the state.
