In many states across the country, people are suffering due to the transition from intense heat to heavy rainfall. Over the past two to three days, reports of heavy rain have come in from various parts of the country, including Delhi, with several fatalities reported. In Maharashtra's Lonavala area in Pune, five people, including a woman and four children, drowned near Bhushi Dam due to the heavy rain. The police and rescue team have recovered two bodies so far. All five victims were residents of Syed Nagar, Pune, and belonged to the same family.
In Gujarat, heavy rainfall on Sunday, June 30, caused severe waterlogging in cities like Ahmedabad and Surat, disrupting normal life. Palsana Taluka in Surat district received 153 mm of rain in just ten hours, the highest in the state.
On June 28, 2024, heavy rain in Delhi led to waterlogging in several areas, including VIP zones. The death toll in rain-related incidents in Delhi has now risen to 11.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) is expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between June 30 and July 4, 2024. Continuous rain has caused landslides, breaking road connections in several districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has deployed workers and machinery to clear debris from the roads.
